Trust, familiarity, affection, and relationship status tiers
Relationships
Commands:
/rel Show all relationships at current location
/rel <name> Show detailed relationship with one NPC
Every NPC you've interacted with has a relationship record
tracking three 0-100 scores:
Trust — how much they rely on you (affects shop discounts,
quest offers, willingness to share secrets)
Familiarity — how well they know you (gates small-talk depth,
nickname use, topic breadth)
Affection — how much they like you (romance + gift receptivity,
social-check bonuses, jealousy triggers)
Status tiers (auto-upgrade as scores cross thresholds):
stranger → acquaintance → friend → close_friend → lover → partner
Interactions that affect scores:
talk, ask about, say to, tell — build familiarity
give, tip, buy at their shop — build trust
flirt, charm, compliment, help quest — build affection
attack, threaten, betray, steal from — DESTROY trust
break promise, side with rival — affection drop
Status-change notifications fire automatically when you rank up
(e.g. acquaintance → friend). Small per-interaction score changes
are silent unless the action explicitly prints them (e.g. a solid
flirt says '+8 attraction').
Caps & cooldowns:
flirt/charm — max 3 attempts per NPC per day; failure locks out
persuade — max 3 attempts per conversation (menu)
intimidate — Strength check; failure drops trust
Tips:
- Build trust FIRST; it gates most of the interesting content.
- Gifts tuned to their preferences give bigger affection boosts.
- Partners / lovers share their deepest secrets and quest leads.
- Attacking any NPC, even briefly, can crater trust across the town
if witnessed.
