How to gain rep (generic)

  • Take guard-duty contracts. Patrol shifts, escort jobs, riot duty. Posted at the Watchhouse.
  • Turn in bounties. Wanted-poster targets pay coin and rep.
  • Help guards in combat. If you're nearby when a guard fights a hostile, contributing to the kill gains passive rep.
  • Report crimes you witness. report crime on observed thefts / attacks.
  • Pay your bounties immediately - sitting on a bounty rots rep.

How to lose rep (avoid these)

  • Attacking a guard
  • :material-bag: Stealing in front of guards (any theft)
  • Casting necromancy in town
  • Helping a fugitive escape
  • :material-mask: Building Thieves Guild rep (tension: −50%)

Rivals to watch

  • Thieves Guild - strongest rivalry. Every +X with Town Guard is roughly −X/2 to Thieves Guild.
  • Pale Order - necromancers. Hostile to all law-abiding factions but especially actively hunted by the Watch.

When the rep is worth it

Town Guard rep is necessary if you want to:

  • Reduce existing bounties (cheaper at honored+)
  • Buy Watch armory gear (chain-and-plate sets, real shields)
  • Have guard backup in mid-town fights
  • Run high-tier contract bounties (the lucrative ones)

It's avoidable if you're running a Rogue/Thieves Guild build - in that case, let it sit at unfriendly and use disguises + alley routes.
