Pets — Combat

How combat pets fight

Combat Pets

Species with the [COMBAT] tag join fights automatically.
They attack every other round (reduced frequency).
Damage is based on the pet's Strength stat.
Hit chance is based on Dexterity.

If a combat pet reaches 0 HP, it is knocked out.
Pets cannot die in combat — they recover after 3 phases.
KO'd pets recover to 25% HP when the timer expires.

Combat pet species include:
Dog, Feral Dog, War Dog, Hunting Hound,
Wolf, Bear, Boar, Messenger Hawk, Sea Hawk,
Exotic Serpent, Kraken Hatchling, Cave Spider,
Shadow Cat, Tunnel Drake, Undead Hound

Pets — Growth

How baby pets grow up

Pet Growth System

Some species start as babies and grow into adults:
Wolf Pup -> Wolf (5 days)
Bear Cub -> Bear (10 days)
Stag Fawn -> Stag (10 days)
Bark Hound Pup -> (stays same species)
Mountain Lion Cub -> (stays same species)

Growth happens automatically at dawn.
When a pet grows up:
  - Stats increase to adult values
  - May gain combat ability
  - You'll see a notification

Baby pets are marked [baby] in /pets.

Pets — Bondmate

The Beastmaster's singular bonded animal

Bondmate (Beastmaster only)

Unlike a regular pet, a Bondmate is the Beastmaster's singular,
lifetime-bonded animal. Rangers who choose the Beastmaster path
unlock bondmate bonuses at rank 20 in a signature skill.

Beastmaster path bonuses:
+25% bondmate damage (pet attacks hit harder)
  +25% bondmate HP on spawn

Commands (non-Beastmaster bondmates are still pets under the hood):
bond <species> <name> Bond with a fresh animal
feed <item> Feed the bondmate (reduces hunger, raises bond)
  name <new_name> Rename the bondmate
release Release back into the wild

Bondmate vs Pet:
A Bondmate has its own bond level 1-5 and mood
     (content / happy / anxious / hungry).
Only Rangers on the Beastmaster path get the combat bonuses.
Any class can still tame regular pets via ?pets taming.

Terminology:
Pet — tamed animal, any class
Bondmate — Beastmaster's single bonded animal
Follower — humanoid ally walking with you (see ?combat followers)
  Summon — caster-conjured temporary ally
  Mount — rideable animal

Pets — Class Affinity

Each class has a thematic pet that grants a big stat bonus

Class Pet Affinity

Every class has a stereotypical pet that fits its fantasy. When
that native pet is alive and following you, you gain a
MEANINGFUL bonus (+20-35%) to your primary stat. Non-native
pets still work — they just don't grant the affinity bonus.

Check your current status: /pet affinity

The table:

Class Native pet Primary stat Bonus Theme
  ---------- ------------- ------------ ----- -------------------------
warrior dog Strength +25% loyal mastiff — bite & intimidate
rogue raven Agility +25% sharp-eyed scout & distract
ranger bondmate (*) Dexterity +35% hunts as extension of your will
mage owl Intelligence +25% silent focus, arcane sense
scholar cat Intelligence +20% attentive silence, clean thought
herbalist fox Perception +25% nose for every herb
bard parrot Charisma +25% charm amplified
wanderer dog Constitution +20% travel companion
monk cat Agility +20% balance mirror
cleric owl Willpower +25% quiet messenger
  necromancer undead_hound Willpower +30% fear-immune minion
tinkerer trained_rat Intelligence +20% utility scout
paladin war_dog Constitution +25% loyal guardian

(*) Ranger Bondmate is the strongest native bond. The Bondmate
is the Beastmaster path's unique, lifetime-bonded animal
      (see ?pets bondmate). Wolf / messenger_hawk / sea_hawk also
      count as Ranger-native alternates.

Gating rules:
  - Bonus only fires while the native pet is alive and following
    you (not stabled, not KO'd).
  - Only one bonus at a time — native species don't stack.
  - Secondary stat (half the primary %) is applied to the same
stat, making the effective bonus the listed value.
