Arcane Collegium

"The premier academy of arcane study in Ghelmyon. Earn respect through scholarship, spellcraft, and service."

The orthodox magic faction. Lecture halls, libraries, robed faculty, the smell of old ink and ozone. Your only formal path to high-tier arcane spell training.

On 'Outsider' as the Hostile title

The Collegium doesn't say hated - they say not one of us. The titles reflect the academic culture; expulsion from the school is worse than being merely disliked.

Friendly Access to Collegium library
Honored Rare spell scrolls, enchanting services
Exalted Archmagister title, arcane secrets

The library is the gate - most mid-tier spells in the game require spending hours in the Collegium archive to learn.

How to gain rep (generic)

  • Pay tuition. Yes, the Collegium charges. Friendly rep nudges on each payment.
  • Quest with faculty. Lecturer-NPCs offer research errands - recover lost texts, identify unknown items, diagnose magical phenomena.
  • Donate rare books. Scholars love a contribution to the archive.
  • Demonstrate competence. Solve a research problem they set; often a Scholar-flavored puzzle.
  • Refuse necromancy. Collegium doctrine forbids it.

How to lose rep (avoid these)

  • Casting necromancy in Collegium halls
  • Building Wild Coven rep (−30%)
  • Starting fires in the library (it happens)
  • Refusing assigned coursework
  • Casting un-sanctioned spells on faculty

Rivals to watch

  • Wild Coven - orthodoxy vs druidry. Soft rival (−30%); both can be held at neutral with effort.
  • Pale Order - necromancers. Strong rival (−50%); cannot hold both above friendly.
  • Temple of the Dawn - not a rival despite outsider perception. Collegium + Temple coexist; some scholars are Temple initiates.

When the rep is worth it

Mandatory for Mage - spell training, mana reagent supply, the spellbook upgrade pipeline.

Strong for Scholar - archive access doubles your appraisal + identify income.

Useful for Tinkerer - Mechanical Arts subdivision teaches arcane-mechanical hybrid recipes (clockwork, enchanted gear).

Skip if you're running Necromancer (impossible) or a pure martial class (no benefit).
