Guide to the four ways of observing the world
Looking, Examining, Searching & Exploring
Ghelmyon has four observation commands, each with
a different purpose:
1. LOOK — See the room
look / l Room description, NPCs, exits
look <npc> Examine an NPC (LLM description)
look <item> Examine an item
No time cost. Plain 'look' is silent.
2. EXAMINE — Same as 'look <thing>' (alias)
examine <npc> Detailed NPC description
examine <item> Item condition and properties
examine corner Check the smoker's corner
No time cost.
3. SEARCH — Loot bodies and scavenge
search <npc> Loot a knocked-out NPC
loot <npc> Same as search
scavenge / rummage Search garbage dumps
Only works on knocked-out NPCs or dump areas.
4. EXPLORE — Scout the area for discoveries
explore Scout current location
Discovers adjacent locations on the map.
Perception check to find hidden items.
Costs one phase of time.
Common mistakes:
'examine room' → You want 'look' (see the room)
or 'explore' (find hidden things)
'search sword' → You want 'examine sword'
(search is for looting bodies)
